Life Skills Needed During The Middle School Years!

Hi Brave Friends,

Welcome fellow adventurers, to a world of empowerment and growth!

Picture this: a virtual gathering of bright minds, a tribe of brave girls ready to conquer the challenges of middle school with confidence and resilience. Step into The Brave Girl Tribe, a remarkable online community dedicated to empowering and supporting girls in the transformative journey from 5th to 8th grade.

During one of our recent coaching calls within The Brave Girl Tribe, we embarked on a journey of identifying life skills needed for success in middle school. It was a thought-provoking and enriching session where the girls and I delved into the social and emotional aspects that play a crucial role in their growth and well-being as they prepare to transition into high school.

We compiled a list of the life skills needed in middle school. Lots of the girls are practicing some of these important skills this summer, and the attached video may be the perfect inspiration for your daughter to step into her independence. It presents an excellent opportunity to make the most of this season and help our daughters develop essential life skills for middle school. By engaging in purposeful activities and conversations, we can empower them with the tools they need to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that lie ahead.

Here are some of the important life skills we discussed:

  1. How to prepare nutritiously affordable meals: Teaching girls the importance of healthy eating habits and how to make balanced, cost-effective meals.
  2. How to manage finances: Instilling budgeting skills, tracking expenses, and understanding the value of money management from an early age.
  3. How to handle household chores and repairs: Equipping girls with basic knowledge of maintaining a clean and functional living space, as well as the ability to address minor repairs independently.
  4. How to develop a chore routine and do laundry: Teaching girls responsibility and independence in managing their own chores and personal belongings.
  5. How to care for plants or animals: Nurturing a sense of empathy and responsibility by teaching girls how to properly care for living beings.
  6. How to effectively manage time: Empower girls to prioritize tasks, set goals, and manage their time efficiently.
  7. How to navigate healthcare: Ensuring girls have the confidence to schedule their own doctor's appointments, fill out forms, and understand their personal health information.
  8. How to cultivate essential personal information: Instilling the knowledge of important details, such as Social Security Numbers and basic health history, which are crucial for various applications and interactions.
  9. Basic home maintenance skills: Teaching practical skills like unclogging drains, turning off utilities, changing air filters, and maintaining safety devices like smoke detectors.
  10. How to communicate effectively and assert boundaries: Empower girls to express their needs, set boundaries, and advocate for themselves in relationships and work environments.

In the spirit of collaboration and growth, let us continue our journey of fostering resilience, self-confidence, and personal development among young girls. Together, we can equip them with the skills necessary to flourish during their middle school years and beyond.

Self-Coaching Workshop

Unlock the Power of Self-Reflection: My Self-Coaching Workshop Course

My Self Coaching Workshop Course offers a valuable tool to navigate the emotional challenges that girls experience during their middle school years. It provides a structured approach, known as the STEAR method, designed to guide parents and daughters through the complexities of emotions and relationships.

Introducing the STEAR Method:

The STEAR method explores—Situations, Thoughts, Emotions, Actions, and Results—and helps individuals identify the factors contributing to their emotional responses. It enables them to:

Identify and Understand: Recognize the situation causing distress and the thought patterns influencing their emotional responses.

Reflect and Reframe: Understand how thoughts impact emotions, which in turn affect actions and outcomes.

Empower and Evolve: Develop the ability to evaluate feelings and consider alternative perspectives and actions to help them move forward.

For Parents and Daughters AlikeThis workshop is a practical resource for parents supporting their daughters. It equips them with strategies to navigate challenging emotions and events together. This course is for everyone, but I have found this tool to be very helpful for my girls with ADHD, as it fosters resilience, emotional intelligence, and a sense of control over their emotions.

If your daughter is in 5th to 8th grade and exploring the complexities of friendships, we warmly invite her to join The Brave Girl Tribe. Our weekly coaching sessions cover everything from navigating friendships to enhancing confidence. We are committed to supporting young girls through their unique challenges in a community that fosters strength and empowerment. Your daughter is welcome to join our next session this coming Sunday at 7 pm EST/6 pm CST/4 pm PST. Please email me to receive the Zoom link.
